Do you mean “civil” law? (Since cases can be civil or criminal.)

    All kinds of legal practice:
    Criminal prosecution
    Criminal defense
    Contract law
    Tort law
    Constitutional law
    Estates/Probate
    Family law (dissolutions, custody, etc)
    Administrative law

As for great public law schools (U of Virginia, UCLA, Texas are among the best). Some fine small public schools, too ( U of Montana, for example, has about 75 students per year but consistently whips up on much larger schools in moot court, trial practice and other competitions).

Get into the best law school you can afford that will accept you — in the industry, law school ranking matters a lot to later job opportunities.

As far as the areas of specialization, you need to study all the general areas — and do nothing else for the first half of your law school career. Then, you’ll have lots of electives to fill — so plenty of opportunities to explore different areas of law (and there are dozens).

In addition to the other comments, it seems like a law degree is opens up many other opportunities as well, such as politics. I can definitely see you succeeding in law school and beyond!
